Trip to Dallas

Posted by on Apr 26, 2007 in Family | Comments Off

It was Carina’s first time in flight. She did pretty good. She fussed a bit but everything was managable. Dallas is a lot warmer than Vancouver. It was like our summer vocation. We were all in shorts. We went to Dallas zoo. Colton loves all the animals. He reconized elephant, lion, monkey, penguin, turtle, horse, fish, sheep, bird…….

Derek’s house is very nice and spacious. There are 4 rooms. Colton was sleeping in one room all by himself. He did very well. Chris and I and Carina were staying in Derek’s master bed room which is pretty far away from Colton’s room. One morning he was awake and he walked down the hall and looked for me. He was walking, calling me and crying at the same time. I think that was cute. Carina was sleeping in a playpen that we brought. She did very well too.

I’m teaching him shapes and color. Chris and I use the playstation dancing mat to teach him shapes. Now he knows X, O, triangle and square. I’m still working on colors. He knows he has a pair of new “blue” runners. He calls them “blue shoes”. But if you have something blue and ask him what the color is, he would say yellow. He knows my sleeping blanket is pink and Chris’ is blue. So he points at my blanket and say pink, and points at Chris’ and say blue. But every time I ask him the color of something else, he would say “yellow”.

The nightmare of rolling over

Posted by on Apr 16, 2007 in Family | Comments Off

Carina is able to roll over from tummy to back. She’s done it 5 times in the last 2 weeks. They all happened at the middle of the night when she’s sleeping. What happen is that she’ll cry for help. She sleeps on her tummy and once she is flipped, she’s not able to roll herself back to tummy. So she cries and that wakes her up more. So I need to rescue her. Last night I just flipped her to her tummy and left. She cried even harder coz she was mad at me not comforting her. So tonight, I pick her up and pat her a little bit. I turn the mobile on as I put her down on her tummy. She falls asleep by herself. BUT…… she wakes up every hour from 12am. She fuss and cry for about 5 mins then fall back to sleep. I wonder what’s wrong with her. Is her teeth bothering her? Is she having acid reflux? Or is she having tummy ache? I don’t really know. Does she want more solid during the day? ….. Taking care of baby is like a big guessing game.

Sleeping thru the night!

Posted by on Apr 1, 2007 in Family | Comments Off

Yeah! Carina is sleeping longer at night. Her last feeding is around 9pm and she sleeps through till around 6am or 7am. So that’s like 9 to 10 hours of sleep. I know she wakes up at the middle of the night but she just wiggles her body and falls back to sleep again. I usually put her down at the very end of the crib and she can wiggle her body all the way to the other end of the crib after a whole night of sleep.

During the day when she’s awake, she likes making different kinds of noise. She likes saying “ah boo…” with all the saliva coming out of her mouth. Colton likes to make her laugh too. It’s getting more fun now looking at them playing with each other. When Carina is crying, Colton will take her chewing toy and offer it to her. OK, gotta stop here, Carina wants to have a nap now.

Sleep train Carina and Potty train Colton

I tried weaning the mid-night feeding for Carina when she was about 2.5 months old. She was sleeping thru the night for 6 to 8 hours. But that only lasted for a few weeks (about 6 weeks) Then she started waking up every 3 to 4 hours at night. So we sleep trained her again 4 days ago. We put her down at 9:30pm. She woke up at 12:22am and screamed and cried for 26 mins. Then she woke up at 3:30am and screamed for 20mins. Then I feed her at 6:30am. The next night she woke up at 3am and cried for 20 mins. The next night she fuss at 3am for a little while then went back to sleep on her own. Last night she didn’t fuss at all. She woke up twice just wiggled her body and went back to sleep till 6:30am. Hope this will last long.

Colton likes pooping in his toilet. He usaully can tell us before he poop. He likes flushing the toilet too. He feels like he as accomplished something BIG! I still havn’t had a chance to let him pee in his toilet. We teach him to still by the toilet to pee and he’ll pretend peeing but nothing comes out. He’s not even 2 yet, so I’m not in rush. I’m pretty pleased with him pooping in the toilet.

Carina found her hands

Posted by on Mar 7, 2007 in Family | Comments Off

Carina found her hands about 3 days ago. She likes holding her hands and plays with her fingers. She talks and smiles a lot. She can giggle too, but we have to put lot’s of effort to make her laugh.

Yu San is one of our close friends from Saskatoon. She came visiting us yesterday. Colton has not seen her for 4 months. He seems remember her. He likes her a lot. He doesn’t want me or Chris to hold him but Yu san. Yu san used to be our special babysitter when Chris and I had outtings at night once in a while when we were in Saskatoon. She started looking after Colton since he was 2 months old. I remember the first time she babysat him was the time when I needed to pick Chris up from the airport for his trip to Vancouver with his mom. It’s very fun watching Colton interacts with Yu San after all these months. I wish she can come here more often.

Poor Carina

Posted by on Mar 1, 2007 in Family | Comments Off

Carina got her needles this afternoon. The nurse gave her 3 needles. 1 on her right thigh and 2 on the other thigh. She didn’t cried until after the needle was out of her skin. She seems fine after we went back home. I give her tynenol in the late afternoon. Then around dinner, she was so fussy. She was crying like she was in great pain. So I nurse her and hope she can get some comfort. But that didn’t really work. So I decided to give her a bath. So I undress her. Guess what, her left thigh was red. No wonder she cried so hard. So after the bath, I held her to sleep. About 20 mins later, I put her down on her tummy and she’s asleep.

Oh! Carina has a birth mark on her right thigh. It’s just a tiny little dot. I found that on Feb 23.

On Feb 27 night, Colton woke up 3 times at night (3am, 5am, 6:30am). Then the next day at dinner, I found that he has a new molar on his lower right gum. That’s why he was waking up at the middle of the night. Colton’s now trying to speak long sentences. He doesn’t know how to put his words together so he just make up some noise and pretend he’s speaking a sentence. He would say things like ” Ba Ba yah ma da bay ah ma ma…” It really sounds like speaking a chinese sentence but no one understand him. He’ll look in to your eyes and say it seriously. Then I’ll say ” Oh! I see. But I don’t understand you”.

Strange phenomenon

It was strange that after Chris has come back from saskatoon, Carina can fall asleep on her own without a fuss. She was able to do that when Chris was home before the trip and she turned to a screaming evil when he was gone. Now she’s like another baby when Chris is back home.

Colton is like a morning rooster. He gets up earlier and earlier each day. Some days he could be up by 6am. Today he was up by 7am. Then nap for 1.5 hours after lunch. He gets jealous when he sees me holding Carina and asks me to put her down. Sometimes he acts like a baby and reminds me that he’s still a baby.

The other day he told me that he needs to poop, so I put him down on his baby toilet. He pushed and he did go. Then he clapped his hands after he did it. It’s like one of the most wonderful time. But that was the last time he pooped on his toilet. We’ll keep trying potty training.

Screaming evil

Screaming evil

My little princess turns to a crying and screaming evil when it comes to sleeping or napping time. She cries and screams for hours. She used to be very good without any noise falling asleep. But she started crying and screaming since Monday. She would stop once I pick her up and start screaming once I put her down. I have no problem listening her screaming but I’m afraid Colton would wake up by her scream. She’s screaming as I’m typing this blog. I have no problem ignoring her since she’s not that adorable when she scream. I wonder how long she could do this, 1 hour or 2? Last night it took an hour for her to fall asleep. If she’s teething, she would have cried even if I hold her. Now she’s sucking her fist and that soothes her a bit. Now she’s crying again. I wonder if she’s a lefty coz she sucks on her left fist. CRY, CRY, CRY AND MORE CRY, then SCREAM, SCREAM, SCREAM AND MORE SCREAM. I won’t rescue her coz she should learn how to fall asleep. If Colton wakes up, I’ll deal with him but not Carina. Now it’s silence. Will it last long? Oh! No. Cry again for 2 minutes. Then silence for 2 seconds. This patern repeats and repeats over and over. Seems like it’ll never end. Finally, she’s down now. It took almost an hour again.

The day has come

Colton didn’t want to have a nap today. I tried so many times leave him in his room and say it’s nap time. He kept opening his door. I ignored him so many times. Finally, he opened his door, climb down his bed and walked down the stairs to the living room. I wondered if he would do this after 2 years old. The day has finally come. He’s a big boy now!

Carina is sleeping thru the night from about 9pm to about 5 or 6am the next morning. I think she’s doing pretty good. She’s smiling and cooing a lot.

After the HK trip

Posted by on Jan 31, 2007 in Family | Comments Off

Chris and Colton went back to HK Jan 12 and came back Jan 20. Colton had jet lag. He woke up at 11pm and stayed up till 3:00AM. He called us for help and asked for his milk the first 2 nights. I explained that every one is now nite nite, so he stayed in his room even if he’s awake. He would kick the wall, open his door and talk to himself without me rescueing him. This lasted for about a week. He had a stomach flu when he was in HK. He was recovered after he’s back home. But now he’s getting a stomach flu again. He vomited 6 times since 3:30am today. I took him to the doctor and he said just give him clear fluid today. He looks ok but a bit tired.

We’re kind of training Colton to use a potty. I asked him to let me know when he needs to poop. He did it once and he poop in his potty. But after that, he called me after he pooped in his diaper. At least he knows he needs to get changed.

Carina is now sleeping thru the night from 9:30pm to 7 or 8am the next morning. She usually fuss around 4 or 5am, but she’s able to fall back to sleep without my help. During the day, she needs to be fed every 2.5 hours which is fine with me. She can fall asleep by herself if I nurse her long enough before her nap time.

I’m going to have a nap with the kids are napping.
