Dream is coming true …

Posted by on Sep 19, 2006 in Family | Comments Off

One more night, ~ 18 hours, my family and I are moving back to Vancouver. While I’m typing in hotel room in Salmon Arm, BC, I still not sure this is going to be real. My wife and I did enjoy living in Saskatoon and had a lot good memory. It was very hard for us driving the last time across the city and heading to highway. We do believe goal as well as dream which are powerful thing to make your life meaningful, I guess. Anyway, I have prepared to set my next dreams after I arrive Vancouver tomorrow afternoon. See you, SK.

My Last day of ….

Yesterday (Sept 14, 2006) was my last day of work in Saskatoon office, was my last day sleeping over my current townhome, was my last day driving my 1988 Corolla which I bought in Vancouver 10 years ago. What was my feelings, not much! Sometime I feel you are too tied, you don’t have much feelings. Yes, after packing for over a month for the moving, I just realize that how much money I have spent….

Air Show

Posted by on Aug 23, 2006 in Family | Comments Off

We went to the air show last Sunday (Aug 20, 06). We went there around 1pm and stayed until 5pm. Colton only napped for about 0.5 hours in the car on our way there. He used to nap 2 to 3 hours everyday. He didn’t fuss and he stayed awake all the time. He loves the planes in the sky and he didn’t scare of the big noise when planes taking off or landing. Then we went out for dinner too. Colton napped for about 5 mins then he was awake again once we were in the restaurant. He smiled and played and ate a lot. Then we put him down to bed at 7pm and he was exhausted. He slept till 7am the next morning. He’s such a good boy.

Moving to the West!

Posted by on Aug 18, 2006 in Career, Family | Comments Off

I’m already in the WESTern country, what I mean is moving to west of Canada, Vancouver. Here is the message I describe the reason and my feeling for this decision to my teammates at work:

Family
For many times, my wife and I would like to live closer to her family. I said many time, because sometime we want and sometime we don’t want. :> Also, if you didn’t know, we are also expecting another baby at the end of Nov. Yes, will be another cchan, I promise. Actually, I have registered a domain called, http://cchanfamily.com . We don’t know the sex yet, will find out at the end of this month. In Chinese culture, having a senior people at home is like a valuable thing, so we want to try to take this advantage to live with our parents. In particular, I grew up with my grandma and I hope my 2 kids will like that kind of childhood.

Dream
In the past 10 years living in Saskatoon, my wife and I had achieved a lot of dreams (education, job, own family, house), but there is one dream left, living in Vancouver. It is nothing about the big city; it is because we feel like Vancouver is our home town. It was the first place when I arrived Canada and I lived there for 4 years before I came to Saskatoon. Also, my wife and I met there in a college. It is just a lot memory. In the future, may be one day while I’m in Vancouver, I will remember all the good time and good people in Saskatoon and will set a dream coming back to live. :>

Career
I have been working in several types of job in the past, restaurant, sales and software development in few cities. At the end you still need to work with good or bad people. I never actually went through a tough time to find a job, even my current job in Point2. I got this job because my friend had an interview with Point2 in June 2001 but he decided to move to Ontario, so he passed this opportunity to me. Yes, in Point2, there is always a great opportunity for everyone to growth. Initially, one of the reasons I accepted this job is because I want to develop in JAVA programming language, I even had a BC license plate, JAVA, and SK license pate, JAVA SK. I was actually mad someone already took the JAVA in Saskatchewan. So, in early 2002, I had a chance to try VS.Net and that was how I have been working in Microsoft technologies for 4 years. I’m also lucky that I have been leading the talent and hard working people as technical team leader. I have been widening my skills in past 5 years. In the nearest future, I will still work in .Net. In addition, because I strongly believe the potential of current project with LendingTree which is different than other projects in the past, I will continue purse my excellence in Point2 and the great work environment and people.
Thank you for all the support and good work in the past and I wish we will have good working relationship in the future.

Understanding Our Language

Posted by on Aug 14, 2006 in Family | Comments Off

My babysitter was taking vocation for the last 2 weeks. So Colton was with my friend (Auntie Lynn) and her boys (age 10 and 4) for 2 weeks. After this 2 weeks, Colton seems to be able to understand a lot of our language. I was in the dinning room and asked him to get his cup and have his meal. He would go grab his cup and walk to his high chair. The other day when he was at day care, the sitter asked him to have a sip of his milk and he would get his cup and have a sip. I think he understands both chinese and english. He’s learning both without noticing that. How nice is that!

The real shower

Posted by on Aug 9, 2006 in Family | Comments Off

Yeah! Colton doesn’t need a baby bath tub anymore. Starting Aug 7, 06, he can take a real shower using the shower head. He will grab on the handle by the tub and stand still when taking a shower. He ljust oved it. It’s much easier to bath him now! He looks like a big boy now.

Walking!

Posted by on Aug 9, 2006 in Family | Comments Off

14680Yes! Collton is finally walking. He started walking the day after he turned 14 months old (July 13, 06). Now he just like walking everywhere. He wants to run but his feet are not as fast, so he would fall. Another new achieve is that he would cry and scream whenever he can’t get the things that he want. That’s called temper tantrum! He babbles a lot and once in a while he would say a really word like “juice”.

Sleep problem in month 9 and 10

Posted by on Apr 23, 2006 in Family | Comments Off

Oh! My God! Colton turned 9 months old the second day we came back from Hong Kong. He woke up 4 to 5 times a night. Sometimes he could stay awake for an hour or two. The worst night he woke up at 2 and I put him down then he woke up and I put him down. This cycled repeated for couple times and it took me 3 hours to put him back to sleep. A week after we came back. He got chicken pox. Yes, chicken pox. I didn’t believe it either but that was what he had. I’m sure that he got it from Hong Kong since the incubation time is 2 weeks. And 2 weeks ago we were at our friend’s son 1st birthday party. Now with the jet lag from the trip, plus the new tricks he learned, plus the chicken pox, his sleep cycle was broken into pieces. He was a good sleeper before, now he turned to another baby at night. It’s terrible. He pulled himself up in his crib and cried out loud and asked for help. For God’s sake, he just learned how to pull himself up but not able to sit back down. So we had to rescue him a couple times during the night. He forgot he could suck his thumb to sooth himself to sleep. It was really stressful for us and for him. About 2 weeks after coming back, he woke up once a night. But he could stay awake for 1 hour. I tried giving him water, singing him a lullaby, nursing him, etc. Nursing is the easiest way to calm him down without fighting with him, but I know he doesn’t need that feeding anymore. So last week, I called the public health nurse for help and I got some books from the library that are recommended. Now Colton is under sleep training. Every time he wakes up at the middle of the night, we let him cried for about 10 mins then go to him and check if every thing is fine and he’s safe. Then we waited a little longer each time until he fall asleep on his own. The whole process took us almost 2 hours. Every night was like a battle. We also found out that he behave a lot better with Chris. So I asked Chris to do it at night. The night before last night we used the baby monitor to watch him instead of going into his room every certain minutes, he finally fell asleep on his own in a awkard position. He was kneeling with his face was on the mattress. Last night he just fussed a little and fell asleep with his awkard position again. Twenty minutes after, I put a blanket on him then he WOKE UP! He stood up and cried like the nights before! Then Chris went in and he took less then 3 minutes to put him down. We’ll see how Colton is doing tonight.

Milestone in month 11

Posted by on Apr 23, 2006 in Family | Comments Off

Yeah! Colton doesn’t need to be nursed any more! The weaning process started when he was 10 months old. I substituted one feeding by formula and it took me a whole month to wean him from me completely. I didn’t get engorged and everything went so smoothly. Now he only takes 3 bottles a day and sleep thru the night from 9pm to 7am. Another new acheivement is that he started to clap on April 21, 06. Oh! On April 17, his nose bleed 3 times that day. I was not too worry about that since I have the same problem when I was a baby too. I noticed the way he plays is a bit different now. He loves pressing buttons. When he couldn’t get something that he wants, he would squeeze some tears out of his eyes. I called that fake tears. But he is a lot more fun to play with now.
